PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

How do you feel about IMPLEMENTATION? No, not what do you think about it; how do you feel about it? What emotions do you experience when you are faced with implementing a decision or plan? What emotions do you have when you try to facilitate a group that is faced with implementation?

Emotion is at the core of every human interaction. It can trigger resistance, stonewalling, manipulation and undermining. It can also trigger motivation, commitment, positive action and team spirit.

EMOTION: A Core Component of Facilitating Implementation

Implementation is the practical step of design and planning. Facilitating implementation plans can be a great challenge in overcoming fear and inertia. Knowing and using the academic language of emotion does not facilitate groups trying to implement their plans. Facilitators need awareness of their own emotional triggers (like fear of conflict), and they need to know what language to use and how to interact with groups in a way that acknowledges the real emotions in the room. Successful facilitation depends on it.

If you can be more aware of your own emotional triggers and know how to acknowledge and address the emotions of groups you facilitate, you can be more effective in helping groups implement their plans.

Please join us as we examine this important topic in the first of our series of 2010 meetings on the theme of Implementation.
